O'Connor was a federal judge on the United States District Court for the Southern District of California. Before becoming a federal judge, President Roosevelt appointed him Comptroller of the Currency in 1933. He served in this position during the Great Depression and resigned in 1938. Ford was a member of the U.S. House of Representatives from California's 14th congressional district from 1933-1945.

The main topic of conversation was marijuana use in high schools. The women concluded that the problem had been "exaggerated and overpublicized." This was supported by Mrs. Lytle's report that a survey of the schools indicated no trace of its use by students.

Myrtle Takaoka and her brother Hal Takaoka in court at a preliminary hearing involving the murder of their dancer sister, Midi Takaoka. Judge Irvin Taplin was presiding. The dancer's throat was cut by her jilted lover, waiter Raymond Johnson. Johnson later was sentenced to life in prison.

From left to right: Ed Levine, A. Brigham Rose, Richard H. Sampson, Donald MacKay, William G. Bonelli, Merle Templeton, William J. Cook, and unknown (possibly last name O'Brien) at the liquor license bribe trial. Levine, a lobbyist, Bonelli, member of the state board of equalization, Templeton, chief liquor control officer, and Cook, friend and campaign worker for Bonelli are all accused of involvement in a liquor license bribe scandal in which they allegedly conspired to extort money from liquor retailers under threat of causing them to lose their liquor license. Rose is the attorney for Levine, Sampson is representation for Templeton, and MacKay is council for Bonelli.

Description:
Photographer and others gathered in the Office of Price Administration with six dummies wearing signs that say: "This congressman committed political suicide. He voted against the O.P.A. by A.V.C." The American Veterans Committee hung the dummies from lamp posts and high wires at prominant intersections throughout the city in support of prolonging government regulation of prices.

The original concrete surface is visible; consistent with other similar architecture of the day, the Observatory's concrete walls were left unpainted in the 1930s and 1940s.

Genevieve Rose Cline, first woman judge appointed to the United States Custom Court in 1928, arrived in Los Angeles on May, 14, 1929 to hear 600 cases customs cases. She returned to Los Angeles in 1932 to hear customs cases from Mary Pickford (actress), W.R. Hearst (publisher), and Winfield R. Sheehan. She served as a judge in New York City, New York, for twenty-five years.

Financier F.W. Leistikow, who, along with his wife Esther E. Leistikow and 17 others, will benefit from a settlement with the County Counsel’s Department after claiming that the county illegally collected taxes on luxury homes in 1939, 1940, and 1941. The claims totaled $32,171.35 and, although the Counsel did not admit wrongdoing, they realized it would be more difficult to protest and decided to pay 62.5% of that amount, equal to $20,117.72
