Description:: Albert Dyer, a 32 year old W.P.A crossing guard who confessed to the murders of three Inglewood girls, at his trial. Dyer admitted to luring the girls; Madeline Everett (9), Melba Everett (7), and Jeanette Stephens (8) into the woods on the pretense of helping them catch rabbits and then strangled them in succession. Extra deputy sheriffs were on guard outside the trial to control the crowds of angry and thrill-seeking people they expected would come to witness the trial of this heinous crime. Dyer was sentenced to death after the jury's two day debate. On September 16, 1938 at San Quentin Prison, Dyer was one of the last people to be hung in the state of California

Description:: Albert Smith, Jerry Ramlow, and Barney Bernard with equipment confiscated from a police raid on the residence at 1019 North Doheny Road on the night of January 4, 1938. The house was apparently operating as a casino for two weeks before tuxedo-clad policemen infiltrated the party and confiscated gambling equipment, $1755 in cash, and arrested seven men. Almost a hundred others, including high profile film actors and producers, were found at the residence.

Description:: George Wallace (alias Robert M. Nixon) with U.S. Marshal William S. Sweeney. Wallace is accused of blackmailing lawyer and horse owner Neil S. McCarthy. McCarthy received four letters, allegedly from Wallace, threatening to maim his race horses with poisoned-needle darts if he didn’t pay up. Wallace testified that he had written the letters, but he had been acting on behalf of a gang of “tough eggs” that were behind the scheme.
