Description:
Prima ballerina Mia Slavenska in costume for "Ghost Town." The ballet was written by Marc Platoff and performed as part of the Ballet Russe at the Philharmonic Auditorium. Slavenska (1916-2002) was a Croatian-born ballerina who became the prima ballerina of the Metropolitan Opera Ballet in 1954. She taught ballet at CalArts and University of California, Los Angeles.

Muralist Millard Sheets' pastoral fresco at Groman Mortuary chapel, Los Angeles, 1935

Description:
A mural depicts a pastoral scene in which a shepherd is tending to his flock of sheep. The shepherd holds a lambs in his arms, while the rest stand in a field with grass, bushes, trees, and hills. The mural is situated in the archway above a set of wooden double-doors. The piece is called, "The Good Shepherd and the Lambs," and also called, "The Shepherd and His Flock" in other literature. This particular photograph is part of a set of three included in the Los Angeles Times article. The caption associated with this specific picture is from "Photograph 3." Famed muralist, Millard Sheets, painted the fresco within a day, above the chapel doorway of Groman Mortuary on 830 West Washington Boulevard in Los Angeles. "Pico Street" is mistakenly written on the nitrate negative sleeve. The mortuary still exists, though it is unknown whether the mural does.

Members of the Polack Bros. Circus set up for their show inside Shrine Auditorium, which is part of the Shrine Charity Circus event. The Shrine Charity Circus is an annual 10-day event, which features an indoor show by the Polack Bros. Circus. Orphaned and underprivileged children are allowed to visit the circus as their admission is paid by affluent members of the community. The circus also travels to the children's hospital to entertain sick children who can't attend. Proceeds from the circus go to Shrine charitable activities.
