Description:
Exterior image of Rene & Jean, French Table d'Hote. Photograph focuses on the restaurant's window which has the business' name stenciled onto the glass. Also on the window is a banner that reads, "Unfair Picketing, We Pay Union Wages, We Work 8 Hours, We Will Not Sanction Forced Unionism." Another smaller sign on the glass reads, "Cocktails 25 [cents]." In the reflection it can be seen that there is an auto park, or parking lot across the street. Over the window hangs a ruffled canopy with the words, "French Table." To the left, a shoe repair shop can be seen next door. The sidewalk outside Rene & Jean's has colorful, geometric designs. Restaurant's entrance to the right not pictured. Rene & Jean's was a French restaurant located in Downtown Los Angeles on 639 South Olive Street. "Table d'hote" means "host's table," which implies the restaurant served French homecooked-style meals to its patrons. The restaurant no longer exists in its original location as there is now a parking lot there. The anti-picketing banner indicates the owners' stance on forced unionism, which was one of the most significant social issues at the time. Though they supported their restaurant's union, the owners were against it becoming a forced institutional practice everywhere. There is no one specific Los Angeles Times article associated with this image.

Description:
Photographer and others gathered in the Office of Price Administration with six dummies wearing signs that say: "This congressman committed political suicide. He voted against the O.P.A. by A.V.C." The American Veterans Committee hung the dummies from lamp posts and high wires at prominant intersections throughout the city in support of prolonging government regulation of prices.

Followers of Robert Noble, whom he has promised "$25 every Monday morning" as part of a pension plan. Noble's supporters were very loyal to him, even though he did not follow through on many of his promises. He was arrested on suspicion of grand theft bunko and also several misdemeanor charges including parading without a permit, blocking the road, and refusing to disperse. Noble spent five days in jail and was planning a gubernatorial campaign upon his release.
