She claimed to have mistaken him for a burglar and shot to frighten him off, accidentally killing him. She was acquitted. Description:
Spectators sit in the seats lining the interior perimeter of Los Angeles Memorial Coliseum. The stands and spectators are below the sight line of the camera. The stands enter frame along the bottom edge, curving to the right and then back to the left. Dozens of spectators sit and mill about the stands at center. At far left, the stadium's grounds jut into view. Cars can be seen lining the inside arc of the track. The arched entrance to the stadium enters frame in the near distance at right and curves towards the left. The entrance and additional seats at left line the background.

Britton, Blayney Matthews and William Bright stand in a row behind them. All but Floyd C. Britton are police. Floyd C. Britton is also arrested on suspicion of kidnapping.

Description:
On December 23, 1935, John Starnes Jr. and David Searcy robbed a liquor store and killed the owner by forcing him to drink a pint of brandy. On March 22, 1936, the two were arrested and confessed to the crime. Searcy was eventually found guilty of second degree murder, kidnapping, and second degree robbery. Starnes Jr. was found not guilty by reason of insanity.
