Derailed train becomes burrowed in ground in aftermath of collision, Glendale, 1935
- Description:
- A derailed train is burrowed shallowly in the ground in the aftermath of a railroad accident. Bystanders--men, women, and children--surround the locomotive, especially to the left of the image. The head of the train has numbers, "2451" and "76." The engineer's train car is painted with "2451." Power line towers, houses, and white picket fences are seen in the background. In the far distance, a "West Glendale" sign is present. The Southern Pacific Railroad locomotive had collided with a seven-ton sand truck on the train tracks in Glendale. A dozen people were injured, with no fatalities.
