Description:
Santa Monica Civic Opera performance of Act 3 of “The Marriage of Figaro.” The Count and Countess Almaviva (portrayed by Pryor Bowen and June Moss) sit upstage on two thrones set on a dais. They watch along with others as two peasant women sing at center. The aristocrats wear 18th century style attire – coats with deep cuffs, waistcoats (vests), breeches and stockings. The Count and Countess both wear wigs – she with a pompadour hairstyle, he in a powdered wig. The peasant women wear full skirts with overskirts tied at the waist, peasant blouses covered with lace-up bodices, and caps covering their hair. The men wear coats, breeches, stockings, and cravats. The setting is a hall in Count Almaviva’s palace. Musicians in the orchestra pit and several audience members can be viewed at foreground. Performed at Barnum Hall, Santa Monica.

Description:
Opera singers performing Act 2, Scene 2 from “Lucia di Lammermoor.” Lucia (Natalie Garrotto) wears a wedding gown and veil and is being comforted by her handmaid, Alisa (Catherine Mazet). Lucia turns away from Edgardo, laird of Ravenswood (portrayed by Ray Gagan) as he sings. He wears a button-down shirt, fitted breeches and tall boots. He also carries a sword at his side. Not far from him stands Enrico, laird of Lammermoor (Enrico Porta), who wears a satin doublet with lace-trimmed collar, breeches and stockings. Additionally, cast members in the role of nobles and courtiers watch as events transpire. June Moss (second from left) performs as one of these nobles. A fabric covered table topped with a quill pen and ink set are the only visible stage props.

A soldier is seated at a table behind them while cast members dressed as soldiers, peasants and villagers mill about. The setting is a village square in Basque country, late 18th century. Scenery includes a painted backdrop with rolling hills and trees, and set pieces painted to look like stone architecture. Santa Monica High School Amphitheatre.

Cherubino and Countess Almaviva wear 18th century attire – he in a long coat, vest (waistcoat) and breeches, she in a lace gown and lace-trimmed dressing robe. The countess also wears a bouffant wig. Susanna, her servant, wears a full skirt and peasant blouse topped with a bodice. The setting is one of the Countess’ rooms in Count Almaviva’s palace, with ornately painted walls and a curtain balcony that becomes the room’s focal point. Set props are end tables and chairs. Musicians can be viewed in the orchestra pit at foreground. Performed at Barnum Hall, Santa Monica.

The men wear stockings, doublets with paneled sleeves, ruff collars, and baldrics (for holding a sword) across their chests. At left, performers portraying the Duke of Mantua and Rigoletto stand opposite two noblemen, possibly Count Monterone and Count Ceprano. The stage set represents a room in the Duke’s palace, replete with paneled walls set with Corinthian inspired columns and a frieze over a curtained passageway.
