Los Angeles Civic Grand Opera production of “Il Trovatore,” Act 2, Scene 1. Manrico, portrayed by Tandy Mackenzie, sings to Azucena, a Gypsy woman (Mina Doerr). The setting is a gypsies’ camp. Set props include a kettle and mock fire, anvils set on tree stumps, wine/water jugs and goblets. Azucena sits on a log next to Manrico’s plumed helmet and sword. Behind them, a painted backdrop depicts a rocky terrain with few trees. Beyond the stage, musicians are viewed in the orchestra pit along with several audience members. The opera was performed at the Wilshire Ebell Theatre, Los Angeles.
