Close-up view of Thornton Chase's tomb in Inglewood Cemetery, Los Angeles, 1946
- Description:
- Photograph of the grave site for Thornton Chase, first American convert to the Baha'i Faith, in Inglewood Cemetery. The tombstone lies at center and is viewed at an angle, close up. The large tombstone lies flat over the ground. Some small bouquets of flowers lie atop it and on the ground surrounding it. The inscription on the tombstone reads, "'THIS IS THE ILLUMINED RESTING PLACE OF THE HOLY SOUL THORNTON CHASE WHO IS SHINING IN THE HORIZON OF ETERNAL LIFE EVER LIKE A STAR.' ABDUL, BAHA 1847 1912." Beyond Chase's grave, tombstones and trees dot the cemetery grounds in the distance.
