Description:
Les extrados sont un triangle de maçonnerie ajouté sur les voutes qui servent à charger les voutes pour les rendre plus solide et à évacuer les eaux de pluie. A ce titre l’étanchéité des extrados et des arases est un élément important de la mise hors d’eau de la Citadelle. La procédure du projet de restauration consistait à : enlever l’étanchéité défectueuse et la remplacer par une étanchéité multicouche a base de mortiers dont les mélanges ont été développés et expérimentés sur le site avec une couche finale de maçonnerie pour raisons esthétique.

Worker melting asphalt to make the bituminous mortar for the waterproofing of the Batterie des Princesses

Description:
Melting the asphalt for the bituminous mortar needed to waterproof the Batterie de Princesses was a problem. The solution was found by a porter who carried sand from the Parking to the Citadelle. He asked one of the architects if a Guidive caldron would not be a good solution because "I know where there is one near here" . These cast iron caldron were used to heat sugar cane juice in the sugar production process in the colonial times. They are relatively rare since made of cast iron they can break under strong impact. This one was in perfect shape. It was carried to the Citadelle from its location near Ramiers, installed on a masonry base with a wood fire underneath it was used effectively for the next 20 years duration of the project

Description:
En 1932, puis en 1950, d'Importants travaux (colmatage des brèches, pose de chapes en béton non armé sur les terrasses...) sauvèrent le bâtiment d'une ruine imminente. Au cours des anées ces chapes en béton non armé de faible épaisseur (5 à 10cm) ont perdu leur étanchéité, la masse d'argile, constituant le blindage des voûtes inférieures sur laquelle elles reposent, se comporte comme une éponge. Les chapes se fissurent et livrent passage aux infiltrations d'eaux pluviales (précipitations annuelles 3000 mmde moyenne) qui traversent la maçonnerie et stagnent au niveau inférieur des chambres de tir. Maintenant ainsi une humidité permanente propice au développement de la végétation cryptogamique.

Description:
Citadelle Henri. Reconstruire la structure du toit de la Batterie Royale telle qu'elle était à l'origine n'a pas été facile. Une étude de deux ans examinant les traces restantes de la structure d'origine a permis au projet de la reconstruire comme l'original. Plusieurs charpentiers français Compagnon du Devoir ont travaillé et formé des charpentiers haïtiens locaux à la charpente du 18ème siècle pour la réalisation de ce projet extraordinaire. La vous voyez la reconstruction du mur qui separe la Batterie Royale du Quartier des Officiers (B1/F4) et supporte la Fathière de la Charpente du toit. Les plans detaillés de toute cette procedure sont disponible dans la collection Plans.

The set is, overall, made up of two lean-to roofs which are joined back-to-back and separated by a powerful ridge wall (B1/F4); one of these roofs covers the entire La Batterie Royale, the terrace of which constitutes a barbette battery; the other roof covers the Officers' Quarters and the outbuildings, while ensuring the structural balance of the first slope.

The Royal Battery, the Officers' Quarters and the Outbuildings of the Governor's Palace form a coherent whole and constitute the only sector of the Citadel where, in the absence of period documents (plans, engravings, construction logs.), the traces of the original state are in sufficient quantity and quality to allow a historically accurate reconstruction.
