Young Los Angelino Yvonne Marion Wolff sits piled under produce grown in a local community garden.Beginning in 1933, small tracts of land throughout Los Angeles county were used by the government as locations for community gardens, where men left unemployed by the Great Depression could work and grow food to feed their families. In 1933, 890 acres of land in Los Angeles County were used toward this purpose; the program expanded to 2,500 acres of land in 1934. This land was approximately enough to grow the vegetables consumed by 20,000 county welfare families.

Kudo was awarded the first round after Detton was so enraged by Kudo's jiu jitsu skills that he ripped off Kudo's jacket. The second round was catch-as-catch-can style. Wreckage of a plane crash that killed 34-year-old test pilot Clark McRoy and his 15-year-old passenger Russell C. Holt. Holt's father, Elwin E. Holt, watched the crash and saw the plane hit the ground 300 yards from his home. Holt said he saw his son wave from the plane before it went into a sharp dive.

A wrecked car has collided with a telephone pole along the La Crescenta Highway, possibly due to the effect of flooding in that area. La Crescenta and the surrounding area experienced severe flooding after heavy, record-breaking rainfall that resulted in loss of life as well as extensive damage to land and property in the first days of 1934.
