SPANISH: Leocadio Choque Poma graba la historia de Villa Belén y sus necesidades actuales: 1. Villa Belén pertenece a la marka y los ayllus de Qaqachaka. 2. La escuela cuenta con un maestro y sus autoridades o directiva, que incluyen el alcalde escolar, presidente, junta auxiliar y agente auxiliar. SPANISH: Enrique Espejo Sepera habla con Juan de Dios Yapita y Denise Y. Arnold primero sobre la producción de la papa (ch’uqi) y sus variedades. Describe el cultivo de las papas en el lugar frío y alto de Qaqachaka, que se llama alarama. Entre la variedad de papas están la papa larga con muchos ojos (axawiri) y la papa blanca amarga (luk’i) que se usa para hacer la papa deshidratada llamada ch'uñu. Comenta que en alarama siempre se produce esta variedad. Comenta también que en esta región el pájaro (chiwuta jamach’i) que anuncia si la producción será buena o no. También menciona que cuando el zorro (liq’uchi) hace excremento (jama) sobre la siembra está será buena. Cuenta que la papa imilla es una variedad de tubérculo harinoso (p’ujsa) que se produce para comercializar, como la papa de varios colores (pilpintu) que son grandes. En manqharana, el lugar más abajo en Qaqachaka y más cálido, se produce todo tipo de papa, además de oca (apilla) y lisasa, tubérculo amarillento con ojos (isañu). Comenta que la lisasa tiene un uso medicinal para el dolor de cabeza. Cuenta que la papa es un producto de intercambio (turkaña) con sal (jayu), carne (aycha), fibra (t’arwa) y maíz (tunqu). En cambio, la papa deshidratada o chuño (chuñu) se intercambia con azúcar, arroz y maíz por arroba. Durante la fiesta de carnaval las mujeres y varones realizan ceremonias de agradecimiento a la Tierra Virgen (Tira Wirjina) por haber producido bien.<br>ENGLISH: Enrique Espejo Sepera talks to Juan de Dios Yapita and Denise Y. Arnold first about the cultivation of potatoes (ch'uqi) and their varieties. He describes the potatoes cultivated in the cold heights of Qaqachaka, called alarama. Among the variety of potatoes are the long potato with many eyes (axawiri) and the bitter white potato (luk'i) used for making ch'uñu. He comments that this product is always produced in those heights. He also comments that in this region the bird called chiwuta jamach'i announces whether the year's production will be good or not. He also mentions that when the fox (liq'uchi) makes excrement (jama) on the crops, it will be a good year. He describes the imilla potato as a variety of floury tuber (p'ujsa) produced to sell in the market, like the large multi-colored potatoes called pilpintu. At the lower warmer levels of Qaqachaka called manqharana, all kinds of potatoes are produced, in addition to oca (apilla) and lisasa, a yellowish tuber with eyes (isañu). He comments that lisasa has a medicinal use for headaches. He describes the potato as a product for exchange (turkaña), traded with salt (jayu), meat (aycha), wool (t'arwa) and corn (tunqu) from the valleys. However, the dehydrated potato called ch'uñu is exchanged with sugar, rice and corn, measured by arroba. During Carnival, women and men perform ceremonies of thanks to the Virgin Earth (Tira Wirjina) for having produced well.

SPANISH: Bernardita Quispe Colque habla con Juan de Dios Yapita and Denise Y. Arnold sobre la historia de Qaqachaka en la Colonia, y antes, en el Tiempo de los Incas y durante el Tiempo de las Chullpas. Comenta sobre Juana Doña Ana, como apoderada de los títulos de tierras (titul q’ipi) por Charcas durante la Colonia, asentándose luego en el lugar donde sería Qaqachaka. Comenta que ella es de Qaqachaka y viuda, quien se había juntado (jaqtatawa) con un hombre de Pukuwata, pero que él se apropió del título, y luego ella nuevamente lo recuperó. Durante su retorno, descanso cuando salió el sol y fue el lugar donde se asentó y fundó Qaqachaka. Menciona a Llanquepacha como cacique de Condo Condo, relacionándolo a dos hermanos, Andrés y Gregorio, y su mujer llamada Kunturi. She comments about Juana Doña Ana, as holder of the land titles (titul q'ipi) by Charcas during the Colony, later settling in the place which would be Qaqachaka. She comments that she is from Qaqachaka and a widow, who had joined (jaqtatawa) with a man from Pukuwata, but that he appropriated the title, and then she again took the title back. Las veces que se encontró con el expresidente Juan José Torres, y sus ideales; valoraba a los campesinos (kampisinut jiwatänwa) y era muy querido. Hablaba quechua, aymara y castellano; hablaba el aymara de Qara muqu y quechua de Charazani. Nombraba a los Estados como comunidades grandes (jach'a kumunirara). Cuenta de la vez que lo ayudó a escapar en Clisa, prestándole su poncho (punch uskuntasin khayam iskapayapxta) y pintándole el rostro. Fue destituido por Hugo Banzer y escapó a la Argentina, donde fue asesinado. 2. La coca que se lleva (Inala inkuña) en la bolsa tejida del varón (wallqipu) y el paño triangular de la mujer (wistalla). En la coca ellos ven (uñaña) las huellas (lastru) de las cosas. La Pachamama habla con la coca, encargándole. Comenta que el esposo de la coca es la lejía (llijt'a), también considerado el yerno de la Pachamama. La Pachamama es la que bautiza a los cerros (qullu) por medio de las nubes (qinaya), cubriéndolos con nieve (khunu). A la Pachamama ni a los cerros se debe ofrendar con sal (jayumpi) porque trae la mala suerte (qhinchhayaña) en la producción, en los rebaños y a uno mismo. Las apachetas son lugares construidos recientemente. Comenta que la Pachamama cada vez va dando menos porque ya no se acuerdan de ella. Por eso envía granizos (chhijchhi) a los alimentos (juyra), sequias (wañantaña), y lluvias (jallu) que causan inundaciones. La ofrenda a la Pachamama debe llevar confites de rojo y blanco (aljinika wila janq’u), canela, menta amarga o q’uwa, y doce hojas de coca (tunkapän kuka). Antes le colocaban con más frecuencia, pero ahora se han olvidado que ella es quien nos da de comer y beber porque somos sus hijos (wawa). La bolsa tejida (wallqipu) que usa el varón para la coca que se mastica (akhulliña) cada día a nombre de Kuntur Mallku, para tener suerte, y su vínculo con la Pachamama. Que la Pachamama es conocida también como Santísima, María y Mama Tirnira. Después de ella aparecieron los animales silvestres (laq’u), la luna cresciente (phaxsi mantipi) y la luna saliente (phaxsi mistu). Luego aparecieron Adán y Eva (Arana Iwana) para poblar este mundo. La historia de la gente chullpa que tenían como animales a los sapos (jamp'atu), las víboras (asiru) y los lagartos (jararankhu). 2. Las canciones a las piedras llamada lamatir qala del Inca. 3. Las canciones en carnavales (Anata) que cantan en Qaqachaka, en Laymi, Jukumanis y Condo, que son casi iguales. 4. SPANISH: Lucía Quispe Choque habla con Juan de Dios Yapita y Denise Y. Arnold sobre cómo las parteras (qaquri) son las especialistas encargadas de controlar el embarazo de las mujeres en Qaqachaka y el siguiente parto. Ellas saben, al agarrar la mano de la mujer, la posición del feto. Según su diagnóstico les frotan (qaquña) con distintas técnicas de masaje o les sacuden (thalaña) en una manta femenina (awayu) o poncho para corregir la posición del feto, y para que su embarazo no se complique. También suelen saber si será varón o mujer. Comenta que durante el embarazo no se debe manejar cosas pesadas, ni hilar ni envolver fiba, ni tejer, para que no nazca él bebé (wawa) enredado con el cordón umbilical en su cuello. En relación al parto comenta que algunas mujeres dan a luz (wawachaña) rápido y otras no. Los bebés que nacen de pie son considerados brujas o brujos (layqa), y a ellos no se les puede decir nada y suelen maldecir a otras personas. Menciona que hay tres tipos de predisposición o "caminos" de la mujer en relación con el parir. A unas las llaman camino de vicuña (wari kamiru), a otras camino del perro (anu kamiru) y a otras camino de gente legítima (jaq’i lijitimu). Hay partos difíciles que necesitan que la partera haga la incisión para que nazca por cesárea, aunque en la actualidad ya no saben cortar. El trabajo de las parteras era renumerado monetariamente. Comenta que cuando nace un bebé, suele salir la placenta (ch’iwacha) inmediatamente, unido a su cordón unbilical (kururu) y que se debe cortarlo y amarrarlo con un caito (ch’ankha). Si la placenta no sale, se debe dar a beber plantas medicinales y si tiene mucha hemorragia se debe hacerla parar con un mate caliente (junt'u k’illa).<br>ENGLISH: Lucía Quispe Choque talks to Juan de Dios Yapita and Denise Y. Arnold about how midwife specialists (qaquri) are in charge of controlling the pregnancy of women in Qaqachaka, and the subsequent childbirth. They know by holding a woman's hand the position of the baby. According to a midwife's diagnosis, they will massage (qaquña) a woman to correct the position of the fetus and sometimes shake (thalaña) the pregnant woman in a woman's mantle (awayu) or man's poncho, again to reposition the fetus so that their pregnancy is not complicated. They also tend to know if the baby will be male or female. She comments that during pregnancy one should not handle heavy things, nor spin or play thread, nor knit, as otherwise the baby (wawa) can be born entangled with the umbilical cord around its neck. In relation to childbirth, she comments that some women give birth (wawachaña) quickly while others do not. Babies who are born with a foot presentation are considered sorcerers (layqa), they cannot be told anything, and they usually make curses. She mentions that there are three predispositions or "pathways" of women in relation to their giving birth. Some have a vicuña pathway (wari kamiru), some a dog pathway (anu kamiru) and others a path of legitimate people (jaqi lijitimu). These pathways influence the degree of difficulty of their deliveries, which in some cases can even require a midwife to make an incision for a cesarean section, although today they no longer know how to do this. The work of the midwives is remunerated monetarily. Doña Lucía comments that when a baby is born, the placenta (ch'iwacha) usually comes out immediately, attached to its umbilical cord (kururu) and this must be cut and tied with thread (ch'ankha). If the placenta does not come out, then medicinal plants should be given to drink and if there is a lot of bleeding, it should be stopped with a hot mate (junt'u k'illa).
