SPANISH: La grabación realizada por Elvira Espejo Ayca es de cantos populares en quechua en que intervienen músicos y bailarines. 1. Una canción (Palomita) en quechua, acompañada por guitarras grandes (jach'a guitarra). 2. Música de carnavales de flautas de pinkillu, con voces de mujeres cantando y un cuerno de pututu y voces de hombres en el fondo, en el wayñu del joven (Wayñu yuqalla). 3. Música de guitarras grandes con voces de mujeres cantando "Chulitay" y hombres haciendo el sonido del pututu. 4. Elvira pide que una mujer cante a los animales y entona el Canto a las Llamas Hembras: "Way away chullumpa" sin accompañamiento. Luego se escucha en el fondo otra música de carnaval. 5. Menciona los doce rezos cantados de Pascua que aprendieron los jóvenes y jovencitas durante Cuaresma y luego realizaron en la iglesia del pueblo en la Semana Santa, pero que actualmente se perdió. Menciona también los rezos para el inicio de la cosecha en comparación con aquéllos vinculados a los evangelistas y escritos en la Biblia.<br>ENGLISH: Bernabé Maraza Mamani talks with Juan de Dios Yapita and Denise Y. Arnold, about prayers, starting with Our Father (Nanakan Awkiña). He mentions the twelve sung prayers at Easter that the young men and women learnt during Lent and then performed in the church in the main village during Holy Week, but that are currently lost. Margarita, quien ayuda al médico en el parto, comenta de todo el procedimiento desde que ingresa con las contracciones. 2. Domingo explica que primero se debe mirar la coca. Cada mujer es diferente y para el alumbramiento observan la cadera (thixni). 3. Margarita explica la atención al recién nacido por un especialista médico pediatra, en tanto que parto es atendido por un medico ginecólogo. 4. Comparan el corte del cordón umbilical (kururu) en un centro médico y en el campo. 5. Explican cómo sacan la placenta (ithapu) que tarda desde quince minutos o más. 6. Describen el uso del atuendo y el aseo de las mujeres en el momento del parto en el hospital y en el campo. 7. Comparan el primer baño del recién nacido en el hospital y en campo, donde lo envuelven (q’iruña) en bayetas. 8. Comentan que el bebé siempre tiene que nacer llorando. 9. Margarita comenta que alguna vez vio a un bebé con la cara deforme sin boca, sin manos y tampoco los órganos sexuales. La madre de 16 años había tomado todo tipo de hierbas para abortar. 10. El sobreparto da a las mujeres cuando el doctor se equivoca o cuando se queda la placenta, y se lo trata con antibióticos y sueros. En el campo, el sobreparto es la recaída y es tratada con plantas medicinales llamadas rija rija o con uñas. 11. Comparan el trato de la placenta en el hospital y en el campo, y 12. Arnold about the following topics: 1. Margarita, who helps doctors during the delivery, comments on the entire procedure from the moment the woman is admitted with contractions. 2. Domingo explains that they first start by reading the coca leaves. Doctors say that each woman is different and for childbirth they observe the hip size (thixni). 3. Margarita explains that the care of the newborn is by a pediatric medical specialist, while delivery is attended by a gynecologist. 4. They compare the cutting of the umbilical cord (kururu) in a medical center and in the countryside. 5. They each explains how they deliver the placenta (ithapu) which can take anywhere from fifteen minutes to longer. 6. They describe the use of women's clothing and grooming at the time of delivery in a hospital and in the countryside. 7. They compare the first bath of a newborn in the hospital and in the countryside, where they wraps it up (q'iruña) in cloths. 8. They comment that the baby always has to be born crying. 9. Margarita comments that she once saw a baby with a deformed face, no mouth, no hands, and no sexual organs. The 16-year-old mother had taken all kinds of herbs to abort. 10. Margaret explains that puerperal fever occurs in women when the doctor has made a mistake or when a part of the placenta is left, but that this is treated with antibiotics and serums. In the countryside, puerperal fever is treated with medicinal plants called rija rija or with nails. 11. They compare the treatment of the placenta in the hospital and in the countryside, and 12. Don Domingo mentions how some babies are born with a crooked hand, and they must be hit with a ladle before the sun rises to straighten it out.

Las libaciones (ch’allaña) para las vacas y sus santos: San Marcos y San Isidro, y las libaciones para la yunta de bueyes. 2. SPANISH: Lucía Quispe Choque habla con Juan de Dios Yapita y Denise Y. Arnold sobre el embarazo y el parto. Menciona que se recomienda a las mujeres embarazadas (usuta) comer pan, buñuelos, verduras, quinua y trigo para que el feto crezca fuerte (chapu). También dentro de la alimentación debe estar la carne de pollo (wallpa aycha), el pito de cañahua (kañawa pitu) y quinua molida (jupha allpi). Comenta sobre la idea de que las mujeres no deben tejer (sawuña) durante el embarazo diseños grandes (jach'a salta), por ejemplo de animales silvestres (laq’u), solo diseños pequeños. Tampoco deben hilar muy largo en la rueca, ni envolver (k’iwutaña) ovillos grandes, ni retorcer (k’anthi) en la rueca una cantidad de lana. Cuenta que hay rezos para pedir a las santas del parto: Mama Copacabana, Mama Guadalupe y Mama Rosario, para que todo vaya bien durante el nacimiento y el alumbramiento. También se ruega a otros santos locales para que las guaguas estén bien. Cuenta sobre el sobreparto (mikaytu) o recaída que le da a la mujer que dio a luz, y para ello se les da mates de hierbas para que se curen. Menciona que, durante los primeros tres meses de una guagua (wawa), ninguna mujer con menstruación ni una embarazada debe mirarlos porque le provoca el moco seco (t’isi), tampoco debe dejarse dormir (ikiña) en cualquier lugar al recién nacido para que su alma no sea atrapada. Comenta que cuando la madre no tiene leche para dar de lactar se debe dar de beber el hervido de la nariz de la vaca (waka nasa). La leche materna es la que les da fuerza, y les quitan (t’aqaña) el pecho a los tres años. No se debe compartir la leche materna de una guagua varón con una guagua mujer ni viceversa.<br>ENGLISH: Lucía Quispe Choque talks with Juan de Dios Yapita and Denise Y. Arnold about pregnancy and childbirth. She mentions that pregnant women (usuta) are recommended to eat bread, fritters, vegetables, quinoa and wheat so that the fetus grows strong (chapu). Also within the diet should be chicken meat (wallpa aycha), toasted cañahua flour (kañawa pitu) and ground quinoa (jupha allpi). She comments on the idea that women should not weave (sawuña) large designs (jach'a salta) during pregnancy, such as those of wild animals (laq'u); only small designs. Nor should they spend very long spinning, nor winding (k'iwutaña) large balls of wool, nor twisting or plying (k'anthi) quantities of thread. She says that pregnant women make prayers to ask for strength from the saints of childbirth: Mama Copacabana, Mama Guadalupe and Mama Rosario, so that everything goes well during the birth. They also pray to other local saints so that the babies are safe. She describes the problem of puerperal fever (mikaytu or relapse) that occurs after women give birth, when they are given herbal teas to heal themselves. During the first three months of a baby's life (wawa), no menstruating or pregnant woman should look at the baby because it could cause dry mucus (t'isi), also the newborn should not be allowed to sleep (ikiña) just anywhere, to avoid its soul becoming trapped. She comments that when the mother does not have enough milk to breastfeed, she should drink the boiled nose of a cow (waka nasa). Breast milk is what gives the baby strength, and they only take away (t'aqaña) their breasts at three years old. A mother should not share the breast milk of a male baby with a female baby nor vice versa.
