SPANISH: La joven Elvira Espejo Ayca y su padre Martín Espejo Quispe, y profesor Leocadio Choque Poma son entrevistados por Juan de Dios Ypaita y Denise Y. Arnold sobre la educación escolar en Qaqachaka en comparación con el aprendizaje en el hogar. También se toma en cuenta asuntos de género. En la grabación, Elvira relata dos cuentos: 1. El Cuento del Picaflor (Jururu), y 2. El Cuento del Picaflor y el Lagarto (Jururunti Jararankhunti). Luego, Leocadio Choque Poma y Martín Espejo Quispe conversan sobre los siguientes temas: 1. La enseñanza escolar a los niños y jóvenes en la marka de Qaqachaka. Menciona que los maestros no solamente deben enseñar en castellano sino también en aymara, para que no se olviden la lengua materna del lugar. 2. Arnold Poma about schooling in Qaqachaka, as compared to learning at home. Gender issues are also taken into account. In the recording, Elvira narrates two folktales: 1. The Tale of the Hummingbird (Jururu), and 2. The Tale of the Hummingbird and the Lizard (Jururunti Jararankhunti). Then Leocadio Choque Poma and Martín Espejo Quispe talk about the following topics: 1. The education of children and young people in the marka and ayllus of Qaqachaka. They mention that teachers should not only teach in Spanish but also in Aymara, so that children do not forget their mother tongue, 2. Then they talk about knitting the men's pointed caps called ch'ullu on metal needles. They relate how the young men of Qaqachaka weave the ch'ullu with different designs (salta) and colors (saminaka), while the young women weave the female mantle called awayu, with different designs. They narrate how, in the festivities held every year, there is a competition between young men and women to see who has woven the most.

SPANISH: El profesor Leocadio Choque Poma habla con Juan de Dios Yapita de los siguientes temas: 1. De cómo los niños aprenden (yatiqaña) de las libaciones y los replican en sus juegos (anataña), imitando a los adultos. 2. Los niños aprenden a cultivar los productos agrícolas jugando, e imitan a sus padres aun en los términos que usan. Ellos aprenden mirando. 3. Aprenden de los mayordomos las libaciones que realizan cada jueves en las comunidades e iglesias. Los niños realizan el mismo evento, pero en juego. Aprenden con los rezos para los santos de la iglesia. 4. También juegan a los matrimonios, realizan la canción de la tía paterna (ipala), y los varones imitan al cuñado (tiwula) con los mismos movimientos de los adultos, aunque es un juego que prohíben sus padres. 5. Los niños (wawanaka) observan a las movilidades, se fabrican sus propios autitos y se ponen a jugar simulando ser choferes. Las niñas también juegan a envolver a las muñecas o cargando. 6. Comenta de la falta de apoyo a las niñas quienes asisten a la escuela hasta 4to y 5to básico. En Qaqachaka los padres solo les brinda apoyo a los varones. 7. Como profesor, ve las aptitudes de todos sus estudiantes, pero de jóvenes migran a las ciudades olvidando su lengua nativa, el aymara. Dejan de hablar el idioma e incluso se avergüenzan de sus comunidades. 8. Comenta de los juegos cuando los niños imitan a los sabios (yatiri), curando a enfermos, apagando los mecheros, con algunos mirando la coca para el futuro bromeando. Desde pequeños muestran sus vocaciones, y 9. Las niñas juegan con sus muñecas como si estuvieran en el parto. Los niños de cuatro y seis años juegan; los niños más grandes ya no juegan por miedo.<br>ENGLISH: Professor Leocadio Choque Poma talks with Juan de Dios Yapita about the following topics: 1. How children learn (yatiqaña) from libations and replicate them in their games (anataña), imitating adults. 2. Children learn to grow produce by playing, and they imitate their parents even in the terms they use. They learn by watching. 3. They learn from the mayordomos the libations that they make every Thursday in the communities and churches. The children carry out the same event, but in a game. They learn the prayers for the church saints . 4. They also play couples, and perform the paternal aunt's song (ipala), while the boys imitate the brothers-in-law (tiwula) with the same movements as adults, although this is a game their parents forbid. 5. The children (wawanaka) observe the local transport, make their own little cars, and start playing pretending to be drivers. The girls also play wrapping up and carrying dolls. 6. He comments on the lack of support for girls who attend school up to 4th and 5th grade. In Qaqachaka parents only provides support to boys. 7. As a teacher, he sees the aptitudes of all his students but when they are still young they migrate to the cities forgetting their native language, Aymara. They stop speaking the language and are even ashamed of their communities. 8. SPANISH: Las chicas Anselma y Aurelia son entrevistadas por Elvira Espejo Ayca. Ellas hablan de tres temas: 1. La historia de la escuela central de la marka de Qaqachaka. Ahí asistían las niñas y los niños de otras regiones, y muchos de ellos venían a pie, otros en caballos y mulas. La asistencia a la escuela fue con la finalidad de aprender (amuyaña) a leer y escribir. 2. La creación de la manta femenina o awayu (musasiñaspa sawuña awayu) a través del Cuento del Ratón quien trajo el textil al lugar (Achaku sawuña apanuqi). 3. Sus abuelas (awila) les contaron que las mantas fueron usadas para tapar a los muertos y fueron enterradas con ellos. En esos tiempos los textiles eran en su mayoría de colores naturales: negro (ch’iyära), blanco (janq’u), café (ch’umphi) y gris (uqi), y las mantas tejidas de un solo color. Además, los textiles antiguos no tenían una costura (ch'uku) en el centro. Por eso relatan el cuento de dos jóvenes que se habían peleado. Ambos sostenían una manta o awayu; uno de ellos querían casarse y el otro no. Se rompían el awayu en dos y tuvieron que repararlo con espinos de cactu como agujas e hilo. Desde entonces, la manta está elaborada de dos piezas cosidas juntas.<br>ENGLISH: The young girls Anselma and Aurelia are interviewed by Elvira Espejo Ayca. They discuss three topics: 1. The history of the central school of the Qaqachaka marka, which girls and boys from other regions attended, many coming on foot, and others on horses and mules. School attendance was for the purpose of learning to read and write (amuyaña). 2. The creation of the female mantle or awayu (musasiñaspa sawuña awayu) told through the Tale of the Mouse who brought textiles to the place(Achaku sawuña apanuqi). 3. Their grandmothers told them that mantles in ancient times (layra timpu) were used to cover the dead and buried with them. In those times textiles were mostly in natural colors: black (ch'iyära), white (janq'u), brown (ch'umphi) and grey (uqi), and the female mantles were of a single color. Ancient textiles also did not have a central seam (ch'uku). They go on to tell the story of two young people who held a mantle between them. One of them wanted to get married; the other no. They tore the mantle or awayu in two and had to repair it with cactus thorn needles and thread. And from then onward, the mantle is made of two parts sewn together.

Arnold sobre algunos cuentos tradicionales y adivinanzas que conocen, y luego Juan de Dios recuerda su caminata a Livichuco desde Qaqachaka marka. 1. William Espejo (9 años) narra dos cuentos: el Cuento del Zoncito y los Dos Jóvenes (Sunsunti Maxt'anakanti), y el Cuento del Zorro y el Quirquincho (Atuxjanti Khirkhinchunti). 2. La contribución de los impuestos llamados tasa, que se pagaba anualmente en la ceremonia llamada Cabildo. 2. El cargo del Postillón (Pustilluna) en el tambo regional de Livichuco. 3. El líder del ayllu denominado “jilanqu”, y cómo lo hacían las personas que tenían tierras extensas. 4. El cargo del mayordomo. 5. La categoría del agregado. 6. Cómo se realizaba antes el pago de la tasa en las reuniones del cabildo en las fiestas de San Sebastián en enero y de Guadalupe en septiembre. 7. Las libaciones o ch'alla que se hacía para los santos locales, cuando se techaba la casa, para los milagros, para dar gracias por las bendiciones terrenales que recibían, para los animales, y para los ángeles pequeños y grandes. 8. SPANISH: Santusa Quispe Ayca es entrevistada por Juan de Dios Yapita y Denise Y. Arnold, y describe los diferentes animales silvestres que se hallan en Qaqachak, y su beneficio para la salud, la buena suerte y como seres que anuncian los fenómenos temporales. 1. Los insectos como la mosca (chichillanka), la abeja (wayranqu) que hace miel, la abeja de trasero rojo (wila ch’ina) y la abeja sin calzón (q'ara kalsuna) que es la más peligrosa y no permiten que uno saque su miel. También está la mariposa (pillpintu), incluyendo la mariposa gris (kita kita uqi) que vuela en las noches y la polilla (thutha) que come la ropa. Luego hay los insectos que aparecen en estación de lluvias, por ejemplo el insecto torito (wakawaka); si es de color negro lloverá mucho y si es de color beige (paqu) dejará de llover. 2. Hay las aves (jamach’i) como el picaflor de cabeza verde y pico grande (jurujuru) que anuncia el nacimiento de las crías de llama (qarwa qallu), nombra el pájaro de los valles (likina) llamado linqi linqi. Hay el gallito de los Andes (puku puku) que anuncia la hora, la perdiz (kiwula), el chiru chiru que canta cuando se construye una casa, el silwi que come habas y el pájaro viento (wayra jamach’i) que anuncia la llegada del viento. La paloma es un ave visto con buenos ojos, y durante las libaciones hace brindis para ella (palumataki) para que produzca un buen maíz. 3. Hay anfibios y reptiles: las ranas (k'ayra) y los sapos (jamp’atu). Para este último realizan brindis. Hay el lagarto (jararankhu) con dos cabezas y orejas y la serpiente (katari chichillu). 4. Hay peces (challwa) de diferentes tamaños, los bichos de agua como el gusano de dolor de muela (k’ama liq’u) de color rojo (wila) y el intestino de agua (uma jiphilla) que se usa como abono para la papa. 5. Finalmente menciona el Cuento de la Apuesta del Cóndor y el Zorro (Kunturinti Liq’uchinti) quienes se sentaron sobre el hielo, y el Zorro murió congelado.<br>ENGLISH: Santusa Quispe Ayca is interviewed by Juan de Dios Yapita and Denise Y. There are fish (challwa) of different sizes, water bugs such as the red toothache worm (k'ama liq'u) (wila), and water gut (uma jiphilla) used as fertilizer for the potato. 5.
