Description:
Photograph of the Geyser Springs Stage loaded with passengers. The stage coach is being pulled by a team of four horses that is standing at left. The stage is at right and has two sets of large wooden wheels, the back set being bigger than the front. There are four bench seats in the stage, lined up one behind the other, and all are facing to the left. The driver sits on the bench furthest to the left and holds the reins to the team. The back three benches are covered by a cloth. All of the seats are occupied. The stage is stopped in front of a large wooden building that is partially obscured from view by a line of tall trees. A wooden picket fence runs between the trees and the street.

Billy sits on a plush elephant toy and Betty holds Rags, their dog, in her lap. A tricycle stands in the yard behind and to the right of Jimmy. The beginnings of a small garden appear to grow in the distance at left. Two women mill about in the background at center.

Related to Los Angeles Times article, January 2, 1938, Yacht Pair Face Charge, Mad Pirate’s Crew Members to Be Arraigned Tomorrow. The closing chapters of the mad piracy voyage of the yacht Aafje which cost the life of Dwight L. Faulding, Santa Barbara hotel man, in a murder by Jack Morgan, later slain by members of his crew, are scheduled to be written next week in Federal court. … [Robert] Horne and [George] Spernak threw Morgan to the sharks as a defense measure to save their own lives and those of three women and a child aboard the ill-fated schooner. …

Description:
Otto Peltzer, the world record holder at the 880 at the time, was particularly interested in running on the Coliseum track, which he praised as a fast track. Two months after this photograph was taken he ran against local racers and set a new Southern California record. During World War II, Peltzer was imprisoned by the Germans because was gay.
