Description:
Trees are planted to honor Los Angeles's patron of music, and as part of a ceremony marking the end of a series of concerts by the Los Angeles Philharmonic as led by conductor Otto Klemperer. The trees planted were nine eugenia trees, planted in a semi-circle around the statue of Beethoven in Pershing Square, as a represtentation of his Ninth Symphony.Pictured from left to right are Klemperer, Mayor Shaw, and John Smallman, founder of the Smallman Oratorio Society.

Harold Bell Wright, author, Los Angeles

Description:
Harold Bell Wright (May 4, 1872-May 24, 1944) , author, poses in Los Angeles. Wright was a novelist and playwright who worked in Hollywood. He wrote fifteen original screenplays and he sold five of his novels to moviemakers (1926-1941). Movies based on his novels include The Winning of Barbara Worth (1926) and The Shepherd of the Hills (1941). Wright died in La Jolla and was buried in San Diego.

Members of the Polack Bros. Circus set up for their show inside Shrine Auditorium, which is part of the Shrine Charity Circus event. The Shrine Charity Circus is an annual 10-day event, which features an indoor show by the Polack Bros. Circus. Orphaned and underprivileged children are allowed to visit the circus as their admission is paid by affluent members of the community. The circus also travels to the children's hospital to entertain sick children who can't attend. Proceeds from the circus go to Shrine charitable activities.

Allers was a European-American conductor of ballet, opera, Broadway musicals, film scores, and symphony orchestras. The ballet was choreographed by American dancer Marc Platoff and performed at the Philharmonic Auditorium.

The strike was issued by Charles Lessing, president of the Federated Motion Picture Crafts, and the American Federation of Labor.

"Neptune's Chariot" float in the Tournament of Roses Parade, Pasadena, 1934

Description:
View of the "Neptune's Chariot" float with a giant sea turtle pulling a shell chariot. The sea god and 2 attendants are absent due to the rain. The Pasadena Memorial Flagpole (Goodhue Flagpole) is visible behind the float in its original location in the middle of the intersection of Orange Grove and Colorado Boulevard. The float was entered by the Texaco company.
