Description:
This biography from the Archives of AskART: Born in England on April 9, 1862. Cannon was educated in London and worked there as a designer for gold and silversmiths. He worked in NYC for several years before settling in Los Angeles about 1906. In 1912 he established the Cannon Art School in Los Angeles and taught there until 1933. He died in Redondo Beach, CA on Feb. 5, 1939. Member: Commercial Artists Ass'n of So. Calif.; Free Lance Art League of LA (co-founder and vice pres., 1918).

Description:
The Hotel Playa Ensenada opened on October 31, 1930. Later known as the Hotel Riviera del Pacifico, it was an elegant gambling casino developed by the North American Compañía Mexicana del Rosarito. The architect was Gordon E. Mayer. The hotel was closed and partly demolished in 1964. Partly rebuilt in 1978, the hotel was reopened as the Centro Social, Cívico y Cultural de Ensenada

Czechoslovakia float at the starting point of the Tournament of Roses Parade, Pasadena, 1927

Description:
A Tournament of the Roses parade float with a European theme (probably the entry from Czechoslovakia). The participant furthest to the left is wearing a traditional Eastern-European dress, while the three participants to the right of the float are wearing gowns. The float is decorated with palms and other various foliage, and a two-dimensional sun is suspended within an arch flanked by monumental vases of flowers. The Pasadena Memorial Flagpole (Goodhue Flagpole) is visible behind the float in its original location in the middle of the intersection of Orange Grove and Colorado Boulevard.

Margaret Preininger published a book titled Japanese flower arrangement for modern homes on December 1, 1935. At that time she was the chairman of Cultural Arts at Los Angeles Junior College. According to the review in Kirkus Reviews, the 35 pages of text explain the four important Japanese Schools and the adaptations of their principles to American flowers and settings; the book includes 52 large reproductions of arrangements and 100 line drawings showing method of procedure; and chapters on vases, holders, flower selection, color, seasons, background and table settings

Inner circle of ornate 1888 horse-shoe-shaped shell art wreath made by poet Ina Donna Coolbrith. The wreath was composed of sea shells interwoven with moss gathered at Santa Monica. The flowers represented include Mariposa lily, Shasta daisy, Copa de Oro, camelia, rose and other flowers. The wreath was a gift to Elizabeth Dalton Perry and William Hayes Perry. At the time of this photograph the wreath belonged to the Perrys' nephew John H. Crum of Santa Monica. The shell wreath is an example of Victorian era domestic crafts. [Note
