ISPAN –UNESCO (PNH-CSSR) – Chantier : Citadelle Batterie royale – Mur de faitage : Face Est Moitié Sud (État actuel)
- Description:
- Before rebuilding the roof the wall that supported it had to be rebuilt. To that effect detailed measured drawings of the existing remains were made, noting every detail. In that process we found that the position of the holes reserved to receive the members of the structure in the wall did not match the position of the posts reservations across the way. The fortuitous solution to that puzzle came when Frederick Mangones during a trip to Washington went to the Library of Congress and found pictures made by Marines during the occupation showing that the wall was significantly lower. It turned out that the wall above the line marked “reprise de la masonerie” had been built during a previous restoration which placed the reservations without reference to the post holes. With that information we were able to dismantle the erroneous part and reconstruct the wall with the reservations in their proper place ready to receive the wooden structure which we had reconstituted from the traces found in the original wall
