Recording of a part of the series of interviews of Komal Kothari conducted by Rustom Bharucha. This tape contains a conversation between the two about the problem of using the categories of 'folk' and 'classical' in India. Kothari responds to Bharucha by sharing tentative definitions of the folk and problematizing them. He then discusses the ritual storytelling tradition of 'Vrat Katha' among women of rural Rajasthan. Instead of looking at them as stories venerating folk gods, Kothari suggests that they can be seen as a medium of perceiving the calendar for the rural population as the Vrat Kathas have specific dates (Tithi and Var). He then further problematizes the idea of village vs. the city. He discusses in detain about the various features of Borunda, where Rupayan Sansthan is situated and delineates different ways in which it could be considered as a rural or an urban space.

Recording of a part of the series of interviews of Komal Kothari conducted by Rustom Bharucha as part of the proposed book "Oral History of Rajasthan". This tape contains a conversation between the two about the puppetry tradition of Rajasthan know as Kathputli. Kothari talks about the process of making the puppets by the puppeteers, their legend related to the history and emergence of the tradition in Rajasthan and the community of the puppeteers known as 'Bhat' and 'Nat'. Kothari then moves on to describing the various techniques used by the Rajasthani Kathputli aritist for maneuvering the string puppets, the exclusive tale of Amar Singh Rathor that is depicted in the Kathputli tradition and different stock character puppets utilized within the presentation of the tale.

Recording of an interview of Komal Kothari conducted by a female speaker and others. Kothari mostly talks about his work in Borunda village after the establishment of Rupayan Sansthan in the same village. He talks about how first collected twenty thousand stories from Borunda village alone, and share his arguments on the purpose of folk tales in rural societies. He then talks about musical instruments that accompany storytelling and narration of epics. Towards the latter part of the tape, Kothari share his division of Rajasthani culture into three geographic zones, the Makka, Jwar and Bajra zones.

In this tape, the conversation deals with several topics including the generic catergory of Bhopa priest, Pabuji Par and Ravanhatha. Kothari further elaborates through the example of the Kamariya community. In the latter part of the recording Kothari talks about the caste structures for marriage in the rural society and a cult known as the Rangaswami community. Kothari also shares a historical and social understanding of caste society in India and the modern caste based reservation system. Bharucha asks about the future of caste based work in the era of industrialization and technology. The recording was done by Kuldeep Kothari.

Recording of a part of the series of interviews of Komal Kothari conducted by Rustom Bharucha as part of the proposed book "Oral History of Rajasthan". This tape contains a conversation about how certain caste groups have supplementary professions outside their villages which they tend to hide from their patrons. The topic comes up while Kothari talks about the Bhat community of puppeteers who hide their puppetry profession from their patrons in Nagaur district. Kothari then also talks about the Kawar genealogists who hide their Kawar making and chanting for other communities from their patrons, the Jassa Bhatis. Two other communities that Kothari discusses are 'Dakors' and 'Pabiya'. Dakors are ritual priests for the lower caste groups in Western Rajasthan and pose as upper caste Brahmins in Gujarat and Maharashtra and engage in thuggery and blackmailing their clients. Pabiya are ballad singers who sing the tale of Raja Harishchandra and other heroes for their patron groups in Sirohi. However, they collect dry bones from dead carcasses of cattle and other animals in Southern Rajasthan.
