Wright Saltus Ludington residence, view of the Lansdowne Hermes statue at end tree-bordered lawn, Montecito, 1931

Description:
The Ludington estate, also known as Val Verde, Dias Felices, the Henry Dater house, and the Dr. Warren Austin home was designed by the architect Bertram Grovenor Goodhue, constructed in 1918 and then purchased by Charles H. Ludington in 1924. His son, Wright Saltus Ludington (who inherited the estate in 1927 or 1930), engaged the landscape architect Lockwood de Forest to design the gardens in 1925. Retaining the geometry of Goodhue's design and much of the wilderness, Lockwood transformed the gardens over a period of twenty-three years.

"Goldilocks and the Three Bears" float in the Tournament of Roses Parade, Pasadena, 1933

Description:
The "Goldilocks and the Three Bears," float has a "National Orange Show" floral sign on the side with a giant orange on wheels as a coach, driven by Mary Jayne Shorett, as Goldilocks, and pulled by the bears, with youths dressed as pages standing at the front of the float. A floral sign at the front of the float reads "San Bernardino." The float is seen at the intersection of Colorade Blvd. and Orange Grove Blvd. The float was sponsored by the San Bernardino Chamber of Commerce.

"Enchanted Lands" float in the Tournament of Roses Parade, Pasadena, 1935

Description:
The "Enchanted Lands" float features a large floral replica of the California Building (a Spanish Colonial building designed for the by architect Bertram Goodhue for the 1915-1917 Panama–California Exposition held in San Diego to celebrate the opening of the Panama Canal) with a bell tower and dome reproduced with yellow, white and bronze chrysanthemums. A sign on the side of the float reads "San Diego, World Exposition City, 1935." On the visible corners of the float are float riders in costume with decorations featuring (L to R) a Spanish-American mission, a Chinese bridge, and a South Seas palm. The Goodhue Flagpole at the intersection of Orange Grove Blvd. and Colorado Blvd. is visible behind the float.
