Description:
Field recording of Kadar Khan Langa with his young male students, Asin Khan Langa, Hussain Khan Langa and Samsu Khan Langa with Sindhi Sarangi accompaniment. The tape contains pedagogic session between Kadar and his pupils. The tape contains intermittent short conversations among the recordists. One of them is Vibeke Homaa, a researcher, who speaks only in English and the other is a scholar, Sudha Rajhans, who acts as Homa's translator and resource-person and speaks in Marwari and English.

Description:
A tape with compilation of songs from different sources. The first track contains a popular Rajasthani song composed and sung by Gazi Khan Manganiar, followed by an incomplete track of a song sung by female singers of the Manganiar community, Ankala and Rukma. The last track contains an incomplete Krishna Bhajan sung by Lakha Khan Manganiar.

Field recordings of Vibeke Homma

Description:
Field recording of Kadar Khan Langa with his young male students, Asin Khan Langa, Hussain Khan Langa and Samsu Khan Langa with Sindhi Sarangi accompaniment. The tape contains pedagogic session between Kadar and his pupils. The recording contains a few traditional songs and melodies from the Langa community repertoire followed by a long pedagogic session on the Dholak played by a young male musician, guided by a senior musician who plays the Kamaicha. The tape contains intermittent short conversations among the recordists. One of them is Vibeke Homaa, a researcher, who speaks only in English and the other is a scholar, Sudha Rajhans, who acts as Homa's translator and resource-person and speaks in Marwari and English. Vibeke Homaa's research dealt with processes of pedagogy among the Rajasthani caste musicians.

Description:

The last three tracks on this tape contains songs sung by female musicians of the Manganiar community, Ankala and Rukma.

Description:
Pabuji ri Sayal', sung by Bankaram Bhopa and Jeevaram Bhopa with Gujjari accompaniment. 'Pabuji ri Sayal' are a genre of devotional narratives wherein the spirit of Pabuji responds to prayers or cries for help of his followers. These are sung narratives performed by the Bhopa priests of Pabuji.

Description:
Field recording of a fair in Rajasthan. The recording contains recitation of a narrative devotional poem followed by songs sung by groups of women and men with percussion on Dhol, Nagara, Thali and Jhanjh. These are presumably sung with a community dance event. The recording also contains ambient noise and background conversations.

Field recording of Lakha Khan Manganiar with his young students from the Langa community - Samsu Khan Langa, Asin Khan Langa and Manjur Khan Langa. A large part of the recording contains a pedagogic session between the senior musician Lakha and his students on the Sindhi Sarangi. The recording also contains a wedding song, 'Mirganaini ra jalla', towards the end of the recording sung by Kadar Khan Langa and his son Manjur Khan Langa with Sindhi Sarangi accompaniment. The tape contains intermittent short requests from the recordist and researcher Vibeke Homaa. Vibeke Homaa's research dealt with processes of pedagogy among the Rajasthani caste musicians.

The last part of the tape contains Vibeke Homaa practicing melodies of traditional Rajasthani songs with the help of a male singer.

Description:
Recordings of Kabir Bhajans composed by the saint poet Kabir, sung by a Maniram and Prem Das of the Nayak community of village Phephana, District Hanumangarh, Rajasthan. They perform with Tandura, Khanjari and Dholak accompaniment. Bhajans are devotional songs usually addressed to or in praise of a particular god or diety. The singer recites the lyrics for the recordist at the end of each Bhajan and elaborates on it. This is known as 'Arthavano' or 'Arthavali'.. Side B of this tape is blank.
