- Gold Shield members from L to R: unidentified, Carroll Johnson, and Louise E. Brown Hoover (UCLA 1930). Formed in 1936, the Gold Shield is a women's alumni group that hosts UCLA events, sponsors lectures, and raises scholarship funds. Louise Hoover, the photographer's wife, was an active member of Gold Shield for 33 years.
