Oda Aument seated in a chair with her hands in her lap. She wears an overcoat, hat, and gloves. She smiles warmly and looks to the left. Oda Aument was the niece of mining engineer Jacob Charles Denton. Denton was murdered by Louise Peete in 1920, a crime for which Peete received a sentencing of life in prison in 1921. Aument aided in this sentencing with her particularly damning testimony. Description:
Dr. Thomas Young was married to Grace (Young) Grogan, a millionaire widow with one son. Dr. Young confessed to killing his wife and burying her body in a cistern at their Beverly Glen cabin in an attempt to gain custody of his stepson and his inheritance. In the middle of his trial in August 1925 Young committed suicide while in jail.

Investigative reporters standing outside the house on Templeton St. where Zeke Caress, his wife, Helen Caress, and his chauffeur, Tadashi Wakabayashi, were held captive at 4700 Templeton St. in El Sereno, Los Angeles. Zeke (E. L., Ezekiel Logan) Caress, his wife Helen Caress, and Tadashi Wakabayashi, their chauffeur, were kidnapped from their Hollywood Hills home on December 20, 1930. They were held in a house near El Sereno, and freed after their abductors were captured by on their way cash the ransom checks.

Description:
The Symphonic Band of the Royal Belgian Guards (now known as the Royal Symphonic Band of the Belgian Guides) on the steps of the City Hall on the day that they arrived in Los Angeles for a tour of Southern California. The group includes the band leader, Arthur Prévost (front row, 2nd from right); Andre Rouseyrol, a tenor from Belgium who resided in Los Angeles (2nd row, left); behind Rouseyrol, L. E. Behymer, who managed the band during their tour (on the 3rd step up, on the left, in a white dress shirt and tie), and Geroge D. Lyon, American Legion member (on the 3rd step 2nd from left, in a cap and white cress shirt and tie). Description:
Jacob Berman (alias Jack Bennett) was charged with participation in a plot to bribe district attorney Asa Keyes to dismiss charges against himself and colleagues for his role in the over-issue of Julian Oil Corporation stock in 1927. He was also separately charged in cases of embezzlement and forgery; the latter trial took place between 1928-1930. In those later trials, Berman testified for the State against Julian Petroleum. Louis Berman, Jacob's brother, was convicted of embezzling from investors in a real estate scam. Louis Berman was also involved in the bribery case. Carl C. Vianelli, a private detective and valet for the Bermans, was also involved in the bribery case as a witness. Daisy De Voe was found guilty of grand theft, misappropriating Clara Bow's money for personal use. Following her conviction, De Voe's attorney, William B. Beirne sought an appeal. De Voe ended up serving eight months of an eighteen-month term plus five years' probation. Two detectives unearthing the remains of Grace [Young] Grogan at her Beverly Glen cabin, Los Angeles, 1925

Description:
Grace (Young) Grogon, a millionaire widow with one son, married Dr. Thomas Young, a dentist. Dr. Young confessed to killing Grace and burying her body in a cistern at her Beverly Glen cabin in an attempt to gain custody of his stepson and his inheritance. In the middle of his trial in August 1925 Young committed suicide while in jail.
