Description:
A rock and log entryway to the Grand Canyon arches over a roadway. It is viewed off to the right side of the road that approaches the entrance. The road stretches upward from low left to the right. Two tall pillars made of stacked stones stand on either side of the road. They taper towards the top. Between the 2 pillars, a long, log beam stretches between them and a sign hangs down from the beam over the road. The sign reads, "-ENTERING- ·GRAND·CANYON·NATIONAL·PARK·." A sign posted on the ground in front of the nearest rock pillar reads, "ENTRANCE PERMIT CARS $1.00 TRAILERS $1.00 MOTORCYCLES $1.00." Trees stand in the distance on the opposite side of the road.

Description:
The St. Francis Dam was a 200-foot high concrete gravity-arch dam built between 1924 and 1926 in St. Francisquito Canyon (near present-day Castaic and Santa Clarita). The dam collapsed on March 12, 1928 at two and a half minutes before midnight. The resulting flood killed more than 600 residents plus an unknown number of itinerant farm workers camped in San Francisquito Canyon, making it the 2nd greatest loss of life in California after the 1906 San Francisco earthquake. It is considered the worst American civil engineering failure in the 20th century.

Description:
The Long Beach earthquake of 1933 took place on March 10, with a magnitude of 6.4, causing widespread damage to buildings throughout Southern California. The epicenter was offshore, southeast of Long Beach on the Newport-Inglewood Fault. An estimated fifty million dollars' worth of property damage resulted, and 120 lives were lost.

Workers prepare ankle-deep mud in the wrestling ring for a match between Sandor Szabo and Prince Bhu Pinder at Olympic Auditorium. This type of wrestling is considered "Hindu style" and it has slightly different rules than regular wrestling, including prohibiting holds beneath the waist. During the match, the first three rows were roped off and the press and referees wore rubber wear to protect from mud splatter. Szabo won the match in front of more than 8000 spectators
