Billy Conn, boxer and actor, and his new wife, Mary Louise Conn (née Smith) on a train. At this time Billy Conn was filming for "The Pittsburgh Kid," formerly "Kid Tinsel." This was also a combination honeymoon trip. Billy wears a double breasted suit. Mary Louise wears a light-colored dress with a buttoned ruffle down the whole front length and a dark large-brimmed hat.

Description:
Gettle was kidnapped from his ranch home in Arcadia on the night of May 9th during a housewarming party, then held in a La Crescenta house by a gang consisting of three men and two women. Police foiled their ransom plot and rescued Gettle on May 14th, following clues recorded on a dictagraph placed on the telephone conversations of a suspected bank robber.

Ransom note sent to Perry M. Parker, father of kidnap victim Marion Parker, from William Edward Hickman, Los Angeles, 1927

Description:
Marion Parker was kidnapped for ransom on December 15, 1927 by William Edward Hickman. Two days later, Marion's remains were found by her father, Perry Parker, on the lawn of 432 S. Manhattan Place- just moments after exchanging $1500 for Marion, whom he presumed to be alive. Hickman was ultimately tried and sentenced to death for the crime. He was executed at San Quentin, October 19, 1928.

The Los Angeles Times newspaper reports indicate that school bonds would fund brand new fireproof and earthquake-proof buildings to house Los Angeles schools.

Description:
Dr. George Bergman and Gertrude Bergman were 7th Day Adventists missionaries in Ethiopia. He founded a hospital in Dessie and was the superintendent of Zauditu Memorial Sanitarium and Hospital in Addis Ababa. When Italy was ready to invade Ethiopia in 1935, he sent his family back to Los Angeles, but he remained to take care of any casualties.

Back of a telegram related to Aimee Semple McPherson, 1926

Description:
In 1926 evangelist Aimee Semple McPherson disappeared from Venice Beach in California for 5 weeks. She emerged in Mexico, claiming to have been kidnapped. A grand jury investigation indicated that she had actually been staying with a former employee, Kenneth Ormiston. The case against McPherson was finally dismissed.
