Mertie West and others visit a cemetery, New Orleans, 1947
- Description:
- An out-of-focus photograph of Mertie West and others walking between the elevated vaults in one of the St. Louis Cemeteries in New Orleans. A well-trodden grass pathway spans the width of the bottom edge and extends back towards the right. In the foreground at left, a uniformed man leads a group of sightseeing women through the grounds as he approaches the left frame. One woman stands directly behind and to the right of him. Several other women follow behind in a group, off-center to the right. Mertie West stands towards the back of this group at center. She faces camera and is fourth from the left. To the left of the group, 2 large vaults stand side-by-side behind a wrought-iron fence. Vaults are barely visible lining the right side of the pathway as it stretches into the distance. A large, opaque patch of white occupies the lower right corner.
