"Circus Days" float in the Tournament of Roses Parade, Pasadena, 1949

Description:
Photograph of the "Circus Days" float, entered by the Standard Oil Co. of California, in the Tournament of Roses Parade (Pasadena Rose Parade). The float is constructed in several sections and is headed by a floral covered elephant ridden by a live circus girl. The words "Circus Days" are spelled out in flowers on the platform. The elephant is followed by two elaborate cage wagons and a floral giraffe standing on a platform with imitation trees and shrubs. An additional float is viewed in the background. Banners with rose designs hang above the Pasadena street alongside banners with iconic illustrations and text reading "Childhood Memories." Throngs of spectators line the parade route that is populated by businesses - including a Bank of America, Save Way Drug, and Mobil gas station (signs out of view in this image). One building advertises "Real Estate" above its portico.

Czechoslovakia float at the starting point of the Tournament of Roses Parade, Pasadena, 1927

Description:
A Tournament of the Roses parade float with a European theme (probably the entry from Czechoslovakia). The participant furthest to the left is wearing a traditional Eastern-European dress, while the three participants to the right of the float are wearing gowns. The float is decorated with palms and other various foliage, and a two-dimensional sun is suspended within an arch flanked by monumental vases of flowers. The Pasadena Memorial Flagpole (Goodhue Flagpole) is visible behind the float in its original location in the middle of the intersection of Orange Grove and Colorado Boulevard.

"La Paloma" float with white doves suspended over a garden inhabited by 6 persons in Spanish attire, including a man in a hat playing lute near center, and singers Jose Arias, Thea La Forte, Sybil Tyler and Ella Archer. "Song of the Nile" float with two sphinx statuettes before lounging, costumed participants. One character fans the others with peacock feathers. The float is covered with leafy foliage, and a vase and other decorative elements are visible. The float was entered by the Pasadena Theatres, Inc.
