Description:
Josie Shaw was Mertie Whitaker's sister. William Shaw was Josie's husband, and Lester and Romayne Shaw were their sons. Abraham and Mary Whitaker were Mertie and Josie's parents. Agnes Hawley later became Forrest Whitaker's wife. Mertie Whitaker became H. H. West's second wife in the 1920's.

He faces left, but his head is turned towards camera. He has a hand raised to his forehead, shading his face from the sun. Josie walks towards them with her back to the camera. Palm trees stand on either side of the sidewalk. The front of a building is at right. Signs for the corner business read, "[...]te Sho[...]," and "Shipped." At left and around the corner from the storefront, another business sign reads, "PALM SPRINGS EMPLOYMENT AGENCY." On the sidewalk extending into the background at left, a sign reads, "PARKING 1 HOUR [undecipherable]." Transformers stand in the distant open space between the building and a palm tree.
