Ada E. Bowers Memorial Fountain in the courtyard of the Bowers Museum, Santa Ana, between 1936-1965

Description:
View of the Ada E. Bowers Memorial Fountain in the courtyard of the Bowers Museum, with a statue of Juan Rodriguez Cabrillo, discoverer of California, and bas-relief scenes behind the statue and along the base of the fountain. To the left of Cabrillo is a rocky formation from which water issues. Behind Cabrillo are 3 scenes including Cabrillo and companions facing Indians on the sea shore with a ship in the ocean in the distance, a mission church, and Indians in a wooden carat (carretta) drawn by oxen. At the base are 8 bas-relief scenes apparently depicting episodes from the mission era and later settlement by ranchers and farmers. A plaque in the center bears the text "Mrs. Bowers Memorial Fountain."

Description:
This image is of a crowd of people on the shore in Santa Monica. In the foreground, a man and two boys can be seen, all wearing swim shorts. The man is likely a lifeguard, as he holds a floatation device on which the letters "guards" can be seen. He also wears a hat. He leans on the bumper of a jeep, one hand on the shoulder of the boy closest to him. In the distance, other men can be seen standing in the shore in beach attire.
