Description:: In image ark no. 21198/zz002d454b, the artist holds a painting with a partially visible signature "Mary Angel..." and the negative sleeve bears the name "Angla Davis." The Los Angeles Times has 2 notices of an artist named Mary Angela Davis exhibiting: in a show called "Five Artists" at the Galleries Perreau Saussine, 7768 Santa Monica Blvd ("Art Events This Week," Los Angeles Times, 14 Feb. 1960: G8) and the Thora Gallery at 5504 S. Sepulveda in Culver City (Los Angeles Times 10 Mar. 1963: W2). Davis applied for Naturalization in Los Angeles on June 13, 1958 and listed as her address 11216 Barman Ave., Culver City.

Description:: View of the Ada E. Bowers Memorial Fountain in the courtyard of the Bowers Museum, with a statue of Juan Rodriguez Cabrillo, discoverer of California, and bas-relief scenes behind the statue and along the base of the fountain. To the left of Cabrillo is a rocky formation from which water issues. Behind Cabrillo are 3 scenes including Cabrillo and companions facing Indians on the sea shore with a ship in the ocean in the distance, a mission church, and Indians in a wooden carat (carretta) drawn by oxen. At the base are 8 bas-relief scenes apparently depicting episodes from the mission era and later settlement by ranchers and farmers. A plaque in the center bears the text "Mrs. Bowers Memorial Fountain."
