In 1935 the sisters, who had gained success in film and theater starring as the characters Eva and Topsy (a role which Rosetta played in blackface) were attempting to make a comeback after various personal and financial troubles.
This photograph is very similar to photographs of Aimee Semple McPherson captioned, "Throngs Greet Evangelist on Appearance to Relate Kidnapping Story Left--Arrow points to Mrs. McPherson as she appeared when on her way from her automobile to the entrance to the Hall of Justice. She was attired in her pulpit robe--white gown and blue cape thrown over her shoulders--and was surrounded and accompanied by a group of young women from Angeles Temple who acted as a guard of honor. Center--The evangelist is shown about to enter the grand jury room. She is accompanied by her attorney, Arthur Veitch. The Duchess of Northumberland’s name is Helen Percy, and her maiden name was Helen Magdalan Gordon-Lennox. Her daughter Lady Elizabeth Percy became Elizabeth Douglas-Hamilton, Duchess of Hamilton and Brandon after marriage, and her daughter Lady Diana Percy became Diana Evelyn Egerton, Duchess of Sutherland after marriage.
