Description:
"The Garden of Italy" float with a floral fountain in the front supported by three women dressed in white: Violet Smith, Anna Lou Kimmel and Helen Smith. Trains of mytle and roses, flowing from the back of the float, are carried by five outwalkers: Margaret Leslie, Irina Richardson, Anna Hoogerzeil [Parker], Louise Logan and Bernice Baily. "Sunbeams of Orange" float in the Tournament of Roses Parade, Pasadena, 1923

Description:
Orange Community Chamber of Commerce float titled "Sunbeams of Orange." Six women are seated on the float, which appears to represent a ship. Two men costumed as pages and holding banners stand on either side of the float. The banner on the left bears the message "Orange Community Chamber of Commerce," and the message on other banner reads "Sunbeams Orange." The house visible behind the float indicates that the photograph was taken before the parade had begun and is on Orange Grove, or on a side street near Orange Grove. Southern California Lions Club float in the Tournament of Roses Parade, Pasadena, 1927

Description:
1927 was the first year the Rose Parade had a theme, "Songs in Flowers," with each float typifying a song. The theme of this float was "The end of a perfect day." The riders include Mrs. Jack Riley (enthroned), Gwendolyn Greeley, and Dorothy Cittell. Reported in "FLOAT BEAUTY SETS MARK...," Los Angeles Times, 02 Jan. 1927: 1.

Sherman Institute float in the Tournament of Roses Parade, Pasadena, 1928

Description:
Float sponsored by the Sherman Institute, an off-reservation boarding school for Native American students. Now called the Sherman Indian High School, it opened in 1892 as the Perris Indian School and later changed its name to the Sherman Institute. On the right are four Native American students beside a decorative tepee. On the left are four Native American students dressed to represent trades taught at the school, with one young woman dressed as a nurse and one young man wearing a smock. Students identified in the newspaper article include Charles Bautista, Adelia Brown, Pearl Beuis, Samuel Cachora, Adolph Sambo Pahvitse, Elsie Sasalque, and Jose Tajete. The float is at the intersection of Orange Grove and Colorado Boulevard.
