“Carmen” production, Santa Monica
- Description:
- Opera singers performing in Act 1 of “Carmen.” Female cast members portraying tobacco factory workers populate the stage. They wear Spanish-inspired attire (peasant blouses and full skirts), hold cigarettes and sing while male cast members dressed as soldiers stand to the left and watch. The soldiers stand next to a scenery flat representing a guard house. Across the stage, a second flat represents the tobacco factory. A sign reading “Fabrica de Tobaco” hangs overhead. Photographed from the audience with view of the conductor and musicians in the orchestra pit, as well as audience members in the first few rows. This may possibly be a Santa Monica Civic Opera production. Stage is likely at a Santa Monica school auditorium. Date of production unknown.
