Inset map shows Reseda Boulevard intersecting with Sunset Boulevard. According to Los Angeles Times, March 20, 1998, "Crossroads of Confusion," a plan to extend Reseda to Sunset and the Santa Monica area began in the 1920s and was scrapped in 1977. Some city maps incorrectly show an intersection between Reseda and Sunset.

Description:
Kidnapping victim William F. Gettle's four children Bobby, Betty, Jimmy, and Billy pose for a photograph after their father's safe return home. Circa May 15, 1934.William F. Gettle, Beverly Hills millionaire, was kidnapped from the grounds of his Arcadia ranch home during a housewarming party on the eve of May 9th. The kidnapping attracted a great deal of attention in the community, with Mrs. Gettle even addressing the kidnappers through the pages of the Los Angeles Times. The kidnappers demanded a $60,000 ransom for the return of Gettle, which Mrs. Gettle agreed to pay. However, before the ransom was paid, two detectives of the LAPD, Chester Burris and H.P. Gearhardt, broke the case after installing a dictaphone in the home of a bank robbery suspect. Information from the dictaphone led them to a La Crescenta home where Gettle was held. He was returned, unharmed, to his family on the eve of May 14th.

Spectators at a $50,000 Derby day at the Santa Anita racetrack on February 22, 1937. The crowd in attendance was estimated at 45,000 spectators. Twenty-three horses raced that day, beating out the Kentucky Derby's record of twenty-two starting horses at that time. The $50,000 purse was won by the horse Fairy Hill.

Perkins, addressed the same evening banquet. Perkins visited Los Angeles for two days to welcome the new class of 37 junior employees who were to begin the program.

Photo of 15-year-old Emma Boyts sitting on a chair on top of a desk before she was hit by a truck while crossing San Fernando Road. Boyts was only injured but her friend, 12-year-old Luise Schoenemann, was killed. The truck driver, Clarence E. Anderson, was held on suspicion of manslaughter after the crossing guard told police that Anderson ignored his motions to halt traffic while the two girls crossed.

When Walker and Carter got into a heated argument over whether Walker was cheating with Carter's husband Carter shot Walker and then shot herself in the breast. Frank L. Walker was Frances Walker's father.

Howard Jones, USC football coach from 1925-1940, bowling. Jones led the University of Southern California Trojans to four Rose Bowls, winning all of them. Jones also coached at Syracuse, Yale, Ohio State, University of Iowa, and Duke. He also won the Rose Bowl with Yale. Jones was inducted into the College Football Hall of Fame in 1951.Photo was probably put in the wrong sleeve as it doesn't appear to relate to the WPA Garden Project

It was host to minor league baseball teams and home of the Los Angeles Angeles. The field is named after the same Wrigley as Wrigley Field in Chicago, but it actually received the name first and had more on-site parking than Chicago's field does now.

Los Angeles County's prize-winning Belgian draft horses are sold at auction. April 18, 1934.

Description:
Five of the twenty-six Belgian draft horses being auctioned off by Los Angeles County at Los Angeles's Union Stock Yards. L.A. County's Board of Supervisors had assessed that the draft horses, though they had won many prizes and obtained national recognition, were too expensive to continue to care for. The twenty-six horses netted $11,367.50 at auction.

Soldier feeds a puppy from a baby bottle during the Army-Navy Maneuvers that took place off the coast of Southern California at the end of 1946. The goal of the war games was to practice two maneuvers: Operation Mountain Goat, an amphibious landing designed to dislodge "enemy" troops, and Operation Oilskin, a landing to cut off "enemy" communications. The Army, Navy, and Marine Corps aircrafts participated in the exercise.

Boy takes part in a free summer camp organized by Los Angeles Sheriff Eugene Biscailuz. Circa July 1937.

Description:
Boys from financially disadvantaged backgrounds participate in a free summer camp in Griffith Park. The camp, which was organized by Sheriff Biscailuz, lasted hosted groups of 100 boys for 10 days at a time. While at camp, the boys participated in activities such as swimming, fencing, baseball, various hobbies, and a nonsectarian religious program. The camp's 1937 season lasted from July 6th to September 4th.
