The ritual performance consists of narrating the story of Amba Mata, the female deity, with Dhak and Thali accompaniment. Amba is a female deity whose narrative is sung and performed during the Gavri festival in eastern Rajasthan. Most devotees of Amba mata and Gavri are members of the Bhil community of Rajasthan.1. A 'stuti' or a prayer dedicated to the female deity Bhawani Mata, sung as part of the ritual narrative 'Ambav Bharat', by a group of men with Dhak and Thali accompaniment. 2. 'Bhawani dar raja hai anadi', a devotional song sung as part of the ritual narrative 'Ambav Bharat', by a group of men with Dhak and Thali accompaniment.

An episode from the narrative tradition of 'Ambav Bharat', dedicated to the female deity of Ambav. The episode consists of a Jogi or an ascetic getting angry at a 'Bar' tree for killing his eighty four disciples. The Jogi compels the King of the area to order the cutting of the Bar tree. Various people are hired to accomplish this task but as the tree is blessed by devi Ambav, a swarm of bees continue to protect it and the tree survives. Finally, devi Ambav appears and tries to persuade the king to not cut the tree. The episode is sung and narrated by a group of male singers with Dhak and Thali accompaniment. The narration alternates between sung verse known as 'Gav', and spoken elaboration known as 'Arthav'.

The Bar tree therefore kills the eighty four disciples of the Jogi who realises upon returning from a short trip that all his disciples are dead. The episode is sung and narrated by a group of male singers with Dhak and Thali accompaniment. The narration alternates between sung verse known as 'Gav', and spoken elaboration known as 'Arthav'.

The female singers belong to Sakar Khan Manganiar's family and the recording was made in his house. Vibeke Homaa's research dealt with processes of pedagogy among the Rajasthani caste musicians.
