Preliminary campus study for Claremont Colleges, Claremont, 1928

Description:
The Claremont Colleges (which now consists of 5 undergraduate and 2 graduate institutions) were founded in 1925 with the establishment of Claremont University College alongside the older Pomona College. By 1928 (the date on this plan) Scripps College had also been founded. Later came Claremont McKenna College, Harvey Mudd College, Pitzer College and the Keck Graduate Institute of Applied Life Sciences.

Plan for Glen Haven Memorial Park, San Fernando, circa 1940

Description:
Park is now (2012) called Glen Haven & Sholom Memorial Park. The Park offers graves, crypts, niches, above and below ground, scattering garden, and private gardens in a grassy space in the Los Angeles National Forest between Kagel and Lopez Canyons in the San Gabriel Mountains. Plan includes a sketch of the park and a road map showing its location.

Heberton residence, garden with walkway, Montecito, 1930

Description:
The Heberton residence, also known as the as Casa Dracaena and El Hogar, was built by the architect George Washington Smith for himself in 1917. It was an immediate success and commissions for similar houses soon began. Ultimately Smith designed 80 houses (of which 54 were built) in the Santa Barbara area and he is often credited as starting the Spanish-Colonial Revival style of architecture in the United States.

Description:
The Ludington estate, also known as Val Verde, Dias Felices, the Henry Dater house, and the Dr. Warren Austin home, was designed by the architect Bertram Grovenor Goodhue, constructed in 1918 and then purchased by Charles H. Ludington in 1924. His son, Wright Saltus Ludington (who inherited the estate in 1927 or 1930), engaged the landscape architect Lockwood de Forest to design the gardens in 1925. Retaining the geometry of Goodhue's design and much of the wilderness, Lockwood transformed the gardens over a period of twenty-three years.

Hell's Half Acre, Wyoming, 1931

Description:
There are several locations called Hell's Acre (Hell's Half Acre more specifically). This is probably Hell's Half Acre between Rock Springs and Casper, Wyoming. It is a desert landscape similar in aesthetics to Badlands National Park. Rocks have been formed into canyons and towering formations by the wind. In this picture there is some low brush and several palm trees.
