Holland's sanity was questioned after he wrote more than 150 love letters to Lyon's wife, actress Bebe Daniels, and claimed to have married her in Mexico. During the case, Holland ran most of his own defense, including a lengthy cross-examination of Lyon. The jury ultimately found Holland to be insane and committed him to the state hospital.

Actor and singer Eddie Cantor, left, and movie producer and mogul Samuel Goldwyn, right. The photo was likely taken in conjunction with a suit brought by Goldwyn against Warner Bros. Pictures, in order to prevent the studio from using dance director and choreographer Busby Berkeley, until Berkeley completed a picture for Goldwyn starring Cantor. Berkeley was under contract to Warner Brothers, but the two studios had an agreement that he would work on two pictures per year for Goldwyn.Cantor testified for Goldwyn in the suit on May 4, 1934.

Actress Berta Singerman seated on a sofa, 1934

Description:
Berta Singerman was born in the Russian town of Mozir in 1901 and grew up in Argentina. Her father founded Buenos Aires’ first Yiddish-language theater. Singerman was a major star on the Argentinean stage from the 1920s and she toured for decades throughout Latin America, and also appeared onstage in the United States, Europe, and Israel. She also made three movies including the silent film La Vendedora de Harrod’s / Harrod’s Salesgirl (1921), the melodrama Nada más que una mujer / Nothing More Than a Woman (1934), one of the Spanish-language versions of Hollywood films made for export in the 1930s, and one of the four-episode anthology dramas Ceniza al viento / Ashes in the Wind (1942). Singerman was particularly renowned for her poetry recitations, including works by Pablo Neruda, Federico García Lorca, and Juan Ramón Jiménez.
