February 11th (22 Bahman) marks the overthrow of Pahlavi Dynasty and the start of the Islamic Republic of Iran. After the 2009 Presidential elections people continued to protest against the results at different dates, including 22 Bahman. People around the world showed their support for Iranian protestors by forming gatherings around the world.

On the day of Ahmadinejad’s address to the United Nations, several activist groups from across the United States and Canada, including Union for Advancement of Secular Democracy in Iran (UASDI) and New York’s Solidarity Committee for Advancement of Democracy in Iran (SCADI), joined in front of UN Plaza during Ahamadinejad’s speech to rally and protest against rights abuses. They also called for release of political prisoners such as Majid Tavakoli. Prominent Iranian singer, Rana Farhan, participated in this event.
