John Royce "Johnny" Mathis is a singer of popular music with several gold and platinum albums. Mathis received the Grammy Lifetime Achievement Award and was inducted into the Grammy Hall of Fame.

Roy Ottoway Wilkins was a prominent activist in the Civil Rights Movement from the 1930s to the 1970s. As a member of the NAACP he contributed to the successful outcomes of Brown v. Board of Education, the Civil Rights Act of 1964, and the Voting Rights Act of 1965.
