Jim (James Russell) Goodrich had a rich and varied journalism career. He obtained a journalism degree from the University of Illinois, and earned two masters degrees from UCLA: in journalism and political science. He was an urban affairs reporter for the Press-Telegram (in Long Beach), and an assistant director of information and reseatch for the Joint Center of Political Studies in Washington D.C.. He was with John son Publications for more than 10 years where he was, at various times, Hollywood editor and associate editor of Ebony magazine and West Coast Bureau chief for Jet magazine. He was the public relationist for Sammy Davis Jr. and, afterwards, as an editor at the Los Angeles Sentinel (1966-67). He went on to teach at Harbor College, UCLA, and UC Irvine, then became the director of the Mass Media Program at Central Washington University in Washington state.
Charlotta A. Bass was the editor of the California Eagle.
Jessie Mae Brown Beavers was a journalist and editor for the Los Angeles Sentinel. She was also a community activist. She was married to insurance executive LeRoy A. Beavers, Jr. (he passed away in 2010 at age 87). They had three children together. Mrs. Brown Beavers died in 1989.
Eddie Burbridge was a journalist, and served as the Sports Editor for the California Eagle before becoming the Theatrical Editor for the Los Angeles Sentinel.
Lillian Lomax was the sister of Gertrude Gipson. Lomax later married oral surgeon Dr. Delo Overstreet Gray.
Leon Hardwick started his career at the newspaper The Call and went on to work as a public relations expert.
Gertrude Gipson Penland was a syndicated columnist, editor, nightclub owner, publicist, and civil rights activist. She was a columnist and entertainment editor for the California Eagle and, then, for the Los Angeles Sentinel. - Description
