Isadore Edelstein, posed here next to an airplane, prepares to leave the United States.
Former convict Isadore R. Edelstein was one of two survivors on a United Airlines plane that crashed into the Pacific Ocean on November 30, 1938. Five others passengers on the plane died at sea while Edelstein and the pilot, Capt. Charles Baldwin, remained in the cabin and were saved. His condition for release stated that he leave the United States.
