Deputy Sheriff Joseph S. Sepulveda was the son of Pedro Sepulveda, and grandson of Don Dolores Sepulvada who received the 35,000-acre Rancho Los Palos Verdes by grant from the Mexican Republic in 1822. He is documented as a deputy sheriff in1the Los Angeles Times newspaper from 1904 to 1933 (often as J. S. Sepulveda, and occasionally as Joe Sepulveda).
