Description

This is a picture of a young woman standing next to a cross section of a tree trunk on Will Rogers State Beach. The label on it reads, "Will Rogers State Beach, California Big Tree, "Sequoia Gigantea". This cross section cut from a fallen monarch in Calaveras Big Tree State Park, located on Ebbetts Pass High-way 4-80 miles east of Stockton. Length of tree 196ft., Diameter at base 22ft, Diameter of Sect. 14ft3in, Age of tree 2000yrs. Larger living trees are to be seen in this grove, one of 32 located on the western slope of the Sierra Nevada Mountains from Placer Co. south to Julare County."
