Leo P. Kelley in the witness stand defending himself during his trial for the murder of Myrtle Mellus. His attorney, S. S. Hahn, stands beside him, holding a thermos and pillows. A ground plan of the 2nd floor of the Mellus home is on a stand leaning against the wall behind Hahn.

Text from newspaper caption: "They are trying to frame me; they haven't told all the truth! Frank Mellus hasn't told the truth!" From the witness stand in Superior Judge Bowron's court yesterday Leo P. Kelley, butcher boy sweetheart and accused slayer of Mrs. Myrtle Mellus, society woman, hurled the above charges. It was Kelley's first day on the stand and his testimony throughout, dealing largely with his relations over a period of five years with the society matron, was the most sensational yet adduced during the trial.
