Photograph of a "World Peace" float at the Seventeenth Ocean Park Children's Floral Parade. The float is decorated by flowers, with the United States Flag cut out in the shape of a shield forming the back of the float. In front, along with the sign "World Peace" is a white dove. A young girl, wearing the badge number "105" sits dressed in a long white gown, flanked by two boy scouts. Another young girl poses in front of the float. A couple (possibly parents of the children) stand behind, possibly identified as La Von Merrill and Mrs. Belle (see image: ark no. 21198/zz002d8p09).
The event was covered in a Los Angeles Times article, "Hundreds of Children to be in Floral Parade," 27 Aug. 1936: 10.
The Ocean Park Annual Children's Floral Parade was a community event started in 1919. The 1936 parade was supported by the Santa Monica Bay district clubwomen and civic leaders with Mayor Gillette and the city council also lending their support. The flowers were supplied by city parks and private gardens.
