Santa Anita Park, the oldest thoroughbred racetrack in Southern California, opened on December 25, 1934.

View of the entrance to the grandstand, with its equestrian-themed frieze visible through the tree branch, at Santa Anita Park with the club house in the distance on the right. The frieze was created by Chester "Chet" R. Phillips, an architect and designer for Gordon B. Kaufmann (architect of the race track). The steps are flanked by planting beds.
