Forrest and June sit on the sofa, smiling and laughing. A white bandage is on June's forehead.
Playing with their father's gun, Forrest accidentally fired the weapon, which ricocheted off the ground and struck his sister on the forehead. When he saw the blood he ran from their home and hitchhiked into San Bernardino, where he finally decided to turn around and return home, where he found out his sister was not critically injured and his parents were waiting for him.
