Bottom: Hydraulic mining Yuba county? Work, which washed away eight times as much soil as was excavatted in building Panama Canal, not permitted only behind Retention dams, which prevent silt andn other detruits from clogging streams. Reservoirs delivered water to nozzles at pressure of 350 pounds.
Top: Old St. George Hotel, Volcano, once pride of Mother Lode.
Volcano and Yuba County were areas of mining activity during the California Gold Rush.
