Bert O'Hanlon stands in the near distance at center. He stands in profile, facing right, but turns his head and smiles to the camera. Along the right edge in the foreground, spectators' knees enter frame. Behind and to the right of Bert, Ebe Shaw holds the tape for a finish line. The tape stretches across the image, passing behind Bert. A third man crouches down behind and between Bert and Ebe at right. The open field stretches back through the image on an angle from left to right. In the distance, spectators line the back left edge of the field and race participants stand at the starting line at right. Trees line the background.
