- An out-of-focus photograph of Mertie West stepping onto a curb while walking through Alexandria. A street enters frame from the bottom edge and stretches back to the left. A sidewalk stretches alongside it at right. At center, Mertie West steps up from the street and onto the sidewalk with her back to camera. Just down the street at left, a car is parked along the curb. It is viewed from the rear. Behind Mertie, a storefront stands at a street corner. A group of pedestrians walk to the left of the storefront. Behind them and the car, a cross street stretches across the image. It is obscured by the car at left and disappears behind the shop at right. Buildings stand in the background at left.
